Today was a shorter development day. I wanted to have a bit of a play around with the real time shadow options available for Unity Free. As you may or may not know proper real time shadows are only available for those lucky enough to be able to afford the Pro license – which I am not 🙁
So, I found a Shadow Volume Toolkit that creates fake shadows that are available to users of the free development environment. After setting it up though I have come across a number of issues that I have contacted the author of the asset about to see if these issues can be resolved. The current issues I’m facing are that the shadow disappears if the object that is casting the shadow is outside of the cameras viewport, this certainly shouldn’t be the case. The other issue is what happens when the player enters the shadow.
