I’ve been considering a complete and total rewrite of AutoWallpaper removing certain unused features and changing the way things work, but it will involve a massive amount of work and I wanted to put forward my ideas before I make a start to ensure that there is still an interest in AutoWallpaper, especially considering the number of new registrations has dropped considerably over the last 6 months.
Firstly, it is unlikely that there will be another Mac version. The continuous alterations made by Apple to the underlying system options means that I have to fight with new OS releases to try and get AutoWallpaper working again. Due to the small number of Mac users I’ve decided to discontinue the AutoWallpaper product line at the current version.
The proposed changes for AutoWallpaper 7:
Rewrite from scratch.
Remove all category references and instead allow users to set up folders, files, and options on a per monitor basis. So each monitor would have it’s own set of watch folders, positioning, sizing and effects options.
Add in some more online image library options in addition to Flickr and 500px.
Possibility of a 64bit version for GUI component.
More advanced scheduling options such as enabling different folders for different IP Addresses (work/home) or at the very least the ability to switch between different location profiles.
Much much cleaner, easier to understand and navigate user interface, especially useful for new users.
So, I would like to hear from current AutoWallpaper users to see what you think, even if it’s just a simple – Yes please. If I get enough of a response I will begin work in the next few months. Please use the website contact form to show your support.
